Brink
There you stand, heaving the air
Dragging it to your depths.
Rooted atop the cliff,
Peering to the unseen.
I linger beyond,
Wait for you to shift.
With that glint of fear
You view some gaping maw.
Daily I wait.
Forever you sway.
Stuttering,
Upon the brink.
Onwards
Stepping out, tentative, slow
In the meek morning sky.
Beneath the sparse blossom bows
Our track gently trundles,
Trees weave tighter, all turns dim,
Yet the blossom beckons us on.
You dart ahead, cast me a grin,
Deep shadows sprawl the path.
You slump upon the soft grass,
All about me grows silent, still.
Each breath rattles of my past,
Deep in the darkness,
My feet sink in concreted will,
The air drowns my dismay.
Onwards you say, but fearful,
Forever here, just beyond;
Is where I'll stay.
